Hopewell Presbyterian Church Cemetery
Mecklenburg Co., NC USA

Around 1762, a group of neighbors began to gather for worship in a home, and in a short time they were organized as Hopewell Presbyterian Church.  The church is located on Beattie's Ford Road in northwest Mecklenburg County.
Stephen Hipp received a grant of land nearby, on Gar Creek of the Catawba River.  Much of his property is under water today as a result of the construction of Mountain Island Lake Dam.
It seems probable that early Hipp family members worshiped at Hopewell, although most of the early membership was composed of Scotch-Irish settlers.  John Hipp is mentioned in a history of Hopewell as being involved in the formation of Paw Creek Presbyterian Church a few miles to the south.
The only HIPP grave that I am able to locate at Hopewell is that of Elizabeth C. Hutchinson King.  Her mother was Cynthia HIPP, daughter of Stephen HIPP Jr.  There are unmarked graves beside hers, which may contain the remains of other King or Hipp family members.
